Penrith City Libraries, serving communities across Penrith, St Mary’s, and St Clair, deliver a vibrant array of programs tailored for all age groups, fostering learning and community engagement. From toddler story sessions to senior craft groups, alongside cutting-edge technology access, these libraries prioritize inclusivity and practical skill-building, earning praise for meeting diverse local needs.

For young children, Penrith City Libraries host engaging programs like Toddler Time for 1-3-year-olds, held Tuesdays at Penrith City Library, and Story Time for 2-5-year-olds, offered weekly during school terms at all branches. These free sessions, filled with stories, songs, and crafts, spark early literacy and social skills. The Toy Library, available at all locations, provides educational toys for kids aged 0-8, including sensory items for children with disabilities. “Our programs are designed to ignite curiosity,” said Librarian Lisa, emphasizing their inclusive approach at Penrith’s front desk. Special events, like the $10 Slime School for 5-10-year-olds on July 8, teach science through hands-on fun, while author talks, such as Dr. Judy Friedlander’s “The Bee Squad” workshop, inspire older kids.

Teenagers benefit from targeted programs like Higher School Certificate (HSC) lectures and creative workshops, including a $90 Dungeons & Dragons series for 12-16-year-olds, fostering teamwork and imagination. The Teen Book Club, meeting monthly, connects young readers with guest authors. For adults, libraries offer author talks, skill-building workshops, and craft groups, such as the Knitting and Crochet sessions at Penrith (first Monday month) and St Mary’s (second and fourth Thursdays). Seniors can join free chair yoga and meditation sessions, led by experts like Suzanne Ellis, to promote wellness.

Technology access enhances these offerings, with laptop lockers, Hublet tablets, and 3D printing services introduced in 2024. The Anytime Library at Glenmore Park, a book vending machine, ensures 24/7 access. Mayor Todd Carney noted, “We’re breaking down barriers to information and technology”. Free membership for New South Wales (NSW) residents unlocks eBooks, audiobooks, and online tutoring, making Penrith City Libraries a cornerstone of community growth and opportunity.
