Timber Giant Backs Local Community Projects

Forestry company OneFortyOne has reaffirmed its commitment to regional communities through its PINE Community Grants Program, which has awarded over $100,000 in funding during the past financial year.

The grants have benefited a wide range of local organisations across South Australia’s Limestone Coast and Victoria’s Green Triangle region, including schools, environmental initiatives, and social support services.

OneFortyOne’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Charlene Riley, said the company’s contribution offers a meaningful boost to grassroots projects already making a strong local impact.

“The community groups we support continue to amaze us with their dedication and resourcefulness,” she said. “We can provide a small boost, but it’s the people who drive these projects that make a big impact in our community.”

The PINE Community Grants Program supports initiatives aligned with four focus areas: People, Ideas, Nature, and Education. Applicants must indicate which area their project primarily supports when submitting their proposal.

According to Riley, most successful applications fall under the “People” and “Education” categories, although the company is keen to increase its involvement in nature-based projects.

OneFortyOne’s “Guidelines for Giving” also highlight the importance of sustainability. Funded projects are encouraged to demonstrate partnership potential and the ability to attract additional financial or in-kind support, helping them become self-sustaining in the long term.

Grant applications are accepted throughout the year and are reviewed on a rolling basis, in line with the South East Seasonal Calendar.

OneFortyOne operates major forestry plantations and sawmills in the region and has become a key supporter of community development and environmental stewardship. Through programs like the PINE grants, the company says it aims to give back to the regions in which it operates.
