A Perth mother has denied stabbing her teenage daughter’s secret boyfriend, telling a court she did not attack the boy to “teach him a lesson,” as previously alleged.

The woman, whose name cannot be disclosed to protect the identity of her daughter, is currently on trial in the Western Australia District Court. She faces charges relating to an incident that took place in 2022, when the 17-year-old boy was found with a stab wound after a confrontation at the family’s home.

According to the prosecution, the woman confronted the boy late at night after discovering he had been seeing her daughter in secret. It is alleged that the confrontation escalated into violence, resulting in the boy being stabbed.

Prosecutors claimed the mother had been angered by the relationship and lashed out physically, allegedly telling police she wanted to “teach him a lesson.” The court was told this statement was part of the police’s recorded interview.

However, during her testimony, the woman denied making such a statement and insisted she did not intend to harm the teenager. She claimed the boy had entered the house without her knowledge and that the situation escalated beyond her control.

The defense argued that the incident was not premeditated and that the mother had acted in self-defense or under emotional distress upon discovering the boy in her home.

The injured teenager was treated in the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and later recovered. He also provided a statement to the police regarding the incident. The relationship between him and the woman’s daughter reportedly began without the mother’s knowledge and was kept secret for several months.

The trial is ongoing, with further witness testimony expected later this week. The judge has instructed the jury to consider all evidence carefully and avoid concluding until closing arguments are heard.

No verdict has been reached at this time, and the accused remains on bail.
