Human Skull Found Near Murray River in Mildura

Authorities have launched an investigation after a partial human skull was discovered near the banks of the Murray River, close to the Apex Riverbeach Holiday Park in Mildura, along the New South Wales and Victorian border.

According to official reports, a local man walking along the riverbank at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Monday spotted something unusual partially buried in the ground. Upon closer inspection, he realized it appeared to be human remains and immediately contacted police.

Officers from the Barrier Police District of New South Wales Police arrived quickly at the scene and established a crime scene to secure the area. A crime scene guard was placed to restrict public access while authorities awaited the arrival of forensic experts to conduct a more thorough examination of the site.

Inspector Wayne Demery of the NSW Police told ABC News that initial assessments suggest the remains are not historic but are instead relatively recent. He stated that the skull will be sent to forensic specialists in Newcastle for detailed examination. “The early indications are that it is not historic remains,” Inspector Demery said. “The remains will be subject to forensic testing to determine their origin and possible connection to any ongoing investigations.”

At this stage, police have not released any details regarding the identity, gender, or approximate age of the deceased. The cause and timeframe of death also remain unknown and will be determined by forensic experts as part of the ongoing investigation.

NSW Police released a public statement confirming that forensic testing is underway and that further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. They emphasized the importance of allowing investigators time to thoroughly process the evidence and asked members of the public to avoid speculation.
