A man is in police custody following a late-night pursuit from Sydney’s Eastern Beaches to the Upper North Shore, which ended with his arrest in Turramurra.

At around 11pm on Sunday, 10 August 2025, police were called to the intersection of Oberon Street and Arden Street in South Coogee after reports of a two-vehicle collision. Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command were told that a red hatchback and a black sedan had collided. The driver of the hatchback allegedly left the scene without exchanging details, as required under New South Wales road rules.

A short time later, officers located the red hatchback on Canberra Street in Randwick. Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but it allegedly failed to comply, prompting a pursuit.

The chase continued across several suburbs, passing through Randwick, Surry Hills, and the Sydney central business district before entering the M1 Motorway. The vehicle then travelled along the Pacific Highway through parts of Sydney’s North Shore. Multiple police area commands provided assistance as the pursuit progressed.

At approximately 11.50pm, the hatchback came to a stop on the Pacific Highway in Turramurra. The driver, a 32-year-old man, was arrested at the scene without incident.

Police conducted a roadside drug test, which allegedly returned a positive reading. The man was taken to Hornsby Police Station, where an oral fluid sample was obtained for further laboratory analysis.

No injuries were reported in the earlier collision, and no damage to other vehicles occurred during the pursuit. However, police confirmed that inquiries into the circumstances surrounding both the crash and the pursuit are continuing.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the full list of charges the man may face, but possible offences could include failing to stop after an accident, police pursuit-related offences, and driving under the influence of drugs.

Police are urging anyone with dashcam footage or information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information can be provided anonymously.

The New South Wales Police Force has reminded motorists that failing to remain at the scene of a crash or refusing to stop when directed by police are serious offences that carry significant penalties, including imprisonment, loss of licence, and substantial fines.

Investigations remain ongoing.
