Australia Clinches T20I Series with Third Straight Win

Australia moved within reach of a clean sweep in their five-match Twenty20 International series against the West Indies with a commanding eight-wicket win in the second T20I, played at Sabina Park on July 22, 2025. The result gave Australia a 2–0 lead, with the third match set for July 26 at Warner Park.

Batting first, the West Indies posted 172 for 8 in their 20 overs. Andre Russell, playing in what is believed to be his farewell international match, provided a late spark with 36 runs off just 15 balls. Brandon King earlier anchored the innings with a composed 51, but Australia’s spinners restricted the middle overs and prevented the hosts from accelerating.

Australia responded with a dominant chase, reaching the target in only 15.2 overs. Josh Inglis led the way with an unbeaten 78 from 33 balls, including nine sixes, in a record 131-run partnership with Cameron Green. Green added 56 from 32 deliveries, sealing the win with 28 balls to spare.

The victory reinforced Australia’s strong record against the West Indies in T20Is. They have now won seven of their last eight encounters. No West Indies side has ever come back from a 0–2 deficit to win a five-match bilateral T20I series. Additionally, the team has now lost five consecutive T20Is at home, matching their longest losing streak on home soil.

Australian debutant Mitchell Owen, who impressed with a half-century and a wicket in the opening match of the series, was not included in the playing XI but remains a promising all-round option for the team.

On the bowling side, Australia’s spinners excelled on a helpful pitch. Adam Zampa took three wickets, while Glenn Maxwell contributed with two. Debutant left-arm spinner Matt Kuhnemann also made an impact, conceding just 20 runs in his four-over spell.

The West Indies face a must-win scenario in the third T20I to keep the series alive. A loss would hand Australia an unassailable 3–0 lead and set them on course for a potential 5–0 sweep—something they last achieved against the West Indies in February 2022.
