Mount Gambier to Host 2025 Regional Music Summit

Mount Gambier has been selected as the host city for Australia’s third national gathering of regional and remote music voices, scheduled for 2025. The announcement follows the success of the 2024 event and this year’s summit currently taking place in Byron Bay.

The annual conference aims to promote collaboration, creativity, and visibility for artists working outside metropolitan centres. Next year’s event in Mount Gambier will bring together musicians, industry professionals, policymakers, and community leaders for a wide-ranging program of workshops, panel discussions, keynote speeches, and live performances.

South Australian Minister for the Arts Andrea Michaels welcomed the decision, noting the State Government’s ongoing investment in the development of the regional music sector.

“We want South Australia to be home to a thriving music culture, including in our regions, and Mount Gambier is the perfect place to host the Regional and Remote Music Conference,” Minister Michaels said.

“This event will build on previous efforts to support local artists on the Limestone Coast and will bring people together for important discussions on how to strengthen regional music across the country.”

The 2025 summit is being delivered by MusicSA, a not-for-profit organisation supporting contemporary music across South Australia  in partnership with local stakeholders and national collaborators. Funding is provided by both the South Australian Government and the Federal Government via Music Australia.

Christine Schloithe, CEO of MusicSA, said the organisation has been working to develop Mount Gambier as a key regional touring hub by connecting artists with venues and supporting sustainable infrastructure.

“Hosting the Summit here is a natural next step, and we look forward to showcasing the creativity and musical energy of this region to the rest of the country,” she said.

Details of the summit program, including guest speakers and featured artists, are expected to be released in the coming months.
