Redfern Police Seek Help to Find Missing Man

Police are appealing to the public for assistance in locating a man reported missing from the inner Sydney suburb of Redfern.

Peter Hayes, aged 68, was last seen around 11:20am on Sunday, 4 August 2025, walking along Redfern Street. Following reports of his disappearance, officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command launched an investigation and began making inquiries into his whereabouts.

Authorities and Mr Hayes’ family are increasingly concerned for his wellbeing. He requires regular medication and is known to have mobility issues, which may affect his ability to move long distances or seek help independently. Police have indicated that, at this stage, there is no evidence of foul play, but given his health needs, the situation is being treated seriously.

Mr Hayes is described as being of Caucasian appearance, around 180 centimetres tall, with a slim build. He has grey hair and facial hair. When last seen, he was wearing grey tracksuit pants and a brown and white flannel shirt. Police believe he may still be in the Redfern area or nearby suburbs.

Local residents are being encouraged to check around their homes and properties, including backyards, sheds, and garages, in case Mr Hayes has taken shelter. Police have also asked businesses and residents with CCTV footage from the area to review any recordings from Sunday morning, as this could provide valuable leads.

South Sydney Police officers have conducted foot patrols, spoken with community members, and contacted local transport services in the effort to trace Mr Hayes’ movements. Flyers with his photo and description have been distributed in the area.

The NSW Police Force is urging anyone who may have seen Mr Hayes or who has information about his whereabouts to come forward. Community members can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Callers can remain anonymous, and all information will be handled in strict confidence.

Police say time is critical in locating Mr Hayes due to his health condition and vulnerability. The search will continue until his safety is confirmed.
