A serious road incident involving a motorcycle and a car brought the Monash Freeway in Wheelers Hill to a standstill this afternoon. The collision, which occurred near the Wellington Road exit just before 1 p.m., has left one rider with life-threatening injuries and raised further concerns about road safety enforcement across Victoria. According to Victoria Police, the incident took place at approximately 12:47 p.m. and involved two motorcycles traveling together at the time of the collision. One of the riders collided with a car under circumstances still being clarified. Emergency services quickly responded to the scene, where the injured motorcyclist was found in critical condition. He was transported to the hospital, and his current status remains uncertain.

The second motorcyclist, who was reportedly riding in tandem with the injured rider, did not sustain any injuries. However, he was arrested by police shortly after the incident. Officers have indicated that he will be interviewed in connection with the crash. Whether he faces any charges will depend on the outcome of the investigation.

The male driver of the car involved in the collision stopped at the scene and is said to be cooperating with police inquiries. No injuries to the driver have been reported, and no indication has been made yet of any fault being assigned.

The Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU), which handles serious and fatal road crashes across Victoria, is leading the inquiry. Detectives from the unit arrived on the scene shortly after the incident and have closed off all four inbound and outbound lanes of the Monash Freeway in the area. This has caused major traffic delays throughout the afternoon, with authorities urging motorists to avoid the area and consider alternative routes.

So far, no official cause of the collision has been released. Investigators are reviewing dashcam footage, speaking to witnesses, and conducting forensic assessments of the vehicles involved.
