Melbourne Man Fatally Shot in Laneway, Gunman at Large

A 21-year-old man has died following a shooting in a laneway behind a home in Wollert, a suburb in Melbourne’s outer north. The incident occurred shortly before 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, with Victoria Police confirming the attack appeared to be targeted.

According to police reports, the victim was approached by an unknown male in the laneway behind a residential property on Champions Parade. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots, and the victim was found critically injured at the scene. Emergency services arrived within minutes, but the young man could not be revived and was declared dead shortly after.

The offender fled the area in a vehicle. Investigators are examining whether a burnt-out car found later in Reservoir is connected to the shooting. As of Thursday evening, no arrests have been made, and the suspect remains at large.

While formal identification has not yet been released by Victoria Police, several media outlets have named the victim as Athan Boursinos. He is reported to be the son of a former Victoria Police officer. Authorities have not confirmed this detail publicly but are aware of the victim’s identity.

The laneway where the shooting occurred has been cordoned off as members of the Homicide Squad conduct investigations. Forensic officers were seen working through the scene throughout the day, gathering evidence and speaking with local residents.
