High-Speed Chase Through Melbourne Ends in Arrest and Drug Seizure

A 45-year-old woman has been arrested following a high-speed police chase that ended in Melbourne’s northern suburbs early Wednesday morning. The vehicle she was driving was confirmed to be stolen, and officers discovered a large quantity of methamphetamine inside. Authorities say the woman is expected to face several serious charges, including drug possession, reckless driving, and vehicle theft.

The incident began around 3:35 a.m. on July 16 when Victoria Police officers spotted a car traveling at 110 kilometers per hour in a 60 km/h zone near the intersection of Mount Alexander and Maribyrnong Roads in Ascot Vale. When officers attempted to intercept the vehicle, the driver accelerated and refused to stop.

Due to the driver’s dangerous actions and increasing speed, Victoria Police deployed their Air Wing to assist in tracking the vehicle. From above, officers monitored the car as it sped through multiple neighborhoods, endangering both motorists and pedestrians.

The chase ended in Brunswick West when the suspect abandoned the car on Egginton Street and fled on foot. Ground units quickly established a perimeter and found the woman hiding nearby. She was arrested without further incident. Police later confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen on June 29.

Inside the car, officers discovered a “significant quantity” of methamphetamine. The drug, also known as crystal meth, is a highly addictive stimulant that has become a growing concern across Victoria due to its link to rising crime and public health issues.

The suspect, a resident of Gladstone Park, is currently being interviewed by police. Her name has not been released. She is expected to face multiple charges once formal proceedings begin.

This latest incident adds to a rising number of drug-related and violent crimes across Victoria. While Victoria Police continue to respond actively, many critics argue that the state’s current criminal justice policies, shaped by a left-leaning government, have failed to deter repeat offenders. They point to a perceived soft-on-crime stance that, they say, has emboldened criminal behavior in Melbourne’s suburbs.

Public confidence in police remains relatively strong. However, there is growing pressure from community members and conservative leaders for tougher laws and more decisive action to address the drug crisis and declining safety standards.
