DIY Car With Missing Bonnet Intercepted by Police

A 64-year-old man from Narre Warren South is expected to face traffic charges after police caught him driving an unroadworthy car without a bonnet and sitting on a plastic garden chair in Cranbourne North earlier this week.

Officers spotted the unusual sight around 3:15pm on Monday, 21 July, while patrolling Greaves Road. The burgundy BMW sedan was missing its bonnet, leaving the engine fully exposed.

Police pulled the vehicle over and, upon closer inspection, found the front seats had been removed and replaced with makeshift cushions and a plastic outdoor chair.

The man told officers he was on his way to collect spare parts and admitted the car was not roadworthy.

He was issued a defect notice and is expected to be charged on summons with multiple traffic offences.
