A 15-year-old boy is in custody following a stabbing at the Royal Darwin Show on Saturday night, which left another 15-year-old in serious condition, Northern Territory Police have confirmed.

The incident occurred around 8:20pm at the Darwin Showgrounds, where both teens were reportedly involved in an altercation that quickly escalated. According to police, one of the boys allegedly used a knife during the confrontation, seriously injuring the other before fleeing the scene.

Emergency services, including officers from Northern Territory Police and paramedics from St John Ambulance, responded quickly to the scene. The injured teen was transported to Royal Darwin Hospital and remains in serious condition. Authorities have not released further medical updates at this stage.

“Police and St John Ambulance attended, and the victim was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious condition,” a police spokesperson stated.

A short time later, around 10:00pm, Northern Territory Police issued a public update via Facebook confirming that the alleged offender had been located and taken into custody. Further details about the arrest, including where the suspect was found and the exact circumstances, have not been disclosed publicly.

Police have not yet confirmed whether the two teenagers were known to each other prior to the incident or whether any other individuals were involved. Investigations into the motive and full circumstances are ongoing.

Authorities are urging any witnesses or members of the public who were at the Royal Darwin Show during the time of the incident to come forward with information or footage that may assist in the investigation.

The Royal Darwin Show, one of the region’s most popular public events, continued under heightened security following the stabbing. Show organisers have not issued a formal statement but are cooperating with law enforcement as needed.

As of Sunday morning, no formal charges had been announced, though the alleged offender remains in custody and is expected to be interviewed by detectives.
