Car Thief Still on the Run After Early Morning Burglary in Norwood

Police are continuing their search for a suspect who broke into a Norwood home and stole a car in the early hours of Monday, July 14. The red BMW was later recovered, but the thief remains at large. Authorities are urging residents in surrounding neighborhoods to check for missing items and report any suspicious activity.

According to South Australia Police (SAPOL), the break-in occurred around 1:45 a.m. at a residence on Kensington Road in Norwood. The intruder gained entry to the home and made off with a handbag, wallet, and a set of car keys belonging to a red BMW hatchback parked in the driveway.

Using the car’s onboard tracking system, officers tracked the vehicle’s movements. The BMW was seen stopping near several addresses in Royston Park before heading north through multiple suburbs. At approximately 3:15 a.m., the car was found abandoned on Adare Court in Elizabeth East.

SAPOL officers, supported by PolAir (SAPOL’s aerial support unit) and Police Dog Enzo, conducted a thorough search of the surrounding area. Despite their efforts, the suspect had already fled the scene and had not yet been identified.

Inside the stolen BMW, police discovered another set of car keys, believed to belong to a Subaru. Investigators now suspect that other homes in the Norwood and Royston Park areas may have been targeted during the same time frame. Authorities are asking residents in those neighborhoods to check whether they may be missing any property, particularly vehicle keys.

As law enforcement continues to investigate, this incident is a sobering reminder of how bold and opportunistic criminal behavior has become in many Australian suburbs. It also raises questions about the effectiveness of current deterrents and the broader consequences of a justice system that often appears more concerned with leniency than accountability.
