A woman is being questioned by police following a suspected hit-and-run incident in Perth’s north-east that left a man dead and shut down a major road for over 12 hours. Authorities believe the driver fled the scene after fatally striking the man in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The incident occurred just after 2:30 a.m. on July 17, 2025, near the intersection of Tonkin Highway and Benara Road in Noranda, Western Australia. Police were called after a man in his 40s was discovered lifeless on the roadway. At the time of their arrival, the vehicle involved was not present, leading to an initial investigation into a possible unexplained death.

Western Australia Police Force (WAPF) quickly established a crime scene, shutting down all four lanes of Tonkin Highway in both directions. Detectives and forensic teams spent much of the day combing the area for evidence, while traffic was diverted, causing significant delays for morning commuters.

It has since been confirmed that the man was struck by a vehicle, which then left the scene without offering assistance or alerting authorities, a criminal offense under Australian law. While the full circumstances remain unclear, a female suspect was taken in for questioning Thursday evening. As of this report, no charges have been laid, and the investigation remains ongoing.

What the victim was doing on such a high-speed roadway in the middle of the night remains uncertain. The incident occurred just meters from an overpass, prompting further questions about whether the victim had crossed into a restricted area or was possibly in distress.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or captured footage on a dash camera to come forward. Such evidence could be critical in piecing together what happened and determining who should be held accountable.

This tragic case also shines a spotlight on broader issues surrounding road safety, personal accountability, and the growing perception that lawlessness, especially on the road, is being met with soft consequences under the current immigration-focused government. Too often, citizens see a system that places more focus on rehabilitation than on real justice for victims and their families.

As the investigation continues, the community waits for answers and for those responsible to be held to account.
