Stolen Car Chase Ends in Arrest on Central Coast

A 50-year-old man has been charged after a police pursuit involving a stolen vehicle on the Central Coast yesterday. Officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command attempted to stop the red ute in Tumbi Umbi, but the driver allegedly fled, leading to a chase that ended with road spikes near The Entrance. The man was arrested and later charged with multiple offences, including driving with a middle-range prescribed concentration of alcohol (PCA).

Police allege the vehicle was stolen earlier that day after a 62-year-old driver stopped to assist a man lying on the ground near Wyong. The suspect reportedly seized the opportunity to take the ute, prompting the owner to report the theft. When officers spotted the stolen vehicle and signalled for it to stop, the driver refused, initiating a pursuit that spanned several suburbs before being terminated for safety reasons. Road spikes were deployed, ultimately bringing the chase to an end.

The accused was arrested near Gosford Avenue after abandoning the vehicle. At Wyong Police Station, a breath test allegedly returned a reading of 0.119 well over the legal limit. In addition to mid-range drink-driving, he faces charges including taking a vehicle without consent, dangerous driving, resisting police, and failing to provide details after damaging property. The swift police response highlights the risks officers face when dealing with reckless offenders.

The man was denied bail and appeared at Parramatta Bail Court today. This incident underscores ongoing concerns about vehicle theft and irresponsible driving behaviour, putting innocent motorists and police at risk. With law enforcement under increasing pressure to combat such crimes, this arrest serves as a reminder that those who flout the law will face serious consequences.
