Police Shoot Armed Man at Mt Druitt Shopping Centre, Critical Incident Declared

A critical incident investigation has been launched after police shot and killed a man allegedly armed with a machete at a shopping centre car park in Mount Druitt. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon following reports of a brawl between two groups. Officers confronted the man, who reportedly threatened them, prompting police to open fire. Despite immediate first aid, the man, believed to be in his 20s, died at the scene.  

According to New South Wales (NSW) Police, officers were called to the carpark on North Parade around 3:15 pm after receiving reports of a violent altercation. Upon arrival, they were confronted by a man wielding a machete. Police stated that the man posed an immediate threat, leading officers to discharge their firearms. NSW Ambulance paramedics provided emergency treatment, but the man succumbed to his injuries shortly after 4:00 pm.  

The Homicide Squad’s critical incident team will lead the investigation, standard procedure in police-involved shootings. The Professional Standards Command (PSC) will review the incident, with oversight from the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC), an independent body that monitors police conduct. Authorities have cordoned off the area as forensic teams gather evidence. Witnesses are urged to come forward as investigators piece together the events leading to the fatal confrontation.  

This incident raises further concerns about public safety and police responses to violent threats. While details remain under investigation, it underscores the challenges law enforcement faces in high-risk situations.
