Queensland Prisoner Aaron Currie Absconds from Facility

Queensland Corrective Services and Queensland Police are actively searching for 34-year-old Aaron Stokle George Currie, who escaped from Palen Creek Correctional Centre on 5 August 2025. The minimum-security facility is located near Rathdowney in Queensland’s Scenic Rim region.

Currie was serving a two-year sentence for the non-aggravated burglary of a non-residential property. Authorities have described him as approximately 170 centimetres tall, weighing around 60 kilograms, with a medium build, dark complexion, black hair, and brown eyes. He has a distinctive square U-shaped tattoo on his upper right arm.

Officials have urged the public not to approach Currie under any circumstances. Anyone who sees him should contact emergency services immediately by calling Triple Zero (000). This incident marks the third escape from Palen Creek Correctional Centre in recent months. Previous escapes involved inmates Mitchell John Connor and Thomas William Wightman. Connor was later apprehended in Brisbane and is now facing charges related to alleged offences including dangerous driving, robbery, and burglary. Legal proceedings in his case are ongoing.

Queensland Corrective Services stated that public safety remains the top priority and confirmed that search and investigation efforts are continuing in close coordination with the Queensland Police Service. Officials have reiterated the importance of community vigilance and are asking residents across the Scenic Rim to report any suspicious activity without delay.

The Department has not released details on how Currie managed to escape from the facility, but a full review is expected. Palen Creek Correctional Centre houses low-risk inmates and focuses on rehabilitation through education, farming, and community service programs. Repeated escapes have raised questions about the adequacy of security measures at the site.
