A man has been charged following the fatal stabbing of a woman at a residential unit in Sydney’s west.

At approximately 5:05pm on Sunday, 3 August 2025, emergency services were called to a property on Hemphill Avenue in Mount Pritchard after receiving reports that a woman had been found with stab wounds to her chest.

NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived at the scene and provided emergency medical assistance to the 62-year-old woman. Despite their efforts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Responding officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command arrested a 28-year-old man at the location. Police confirmed that the man was known to the woman, though the nature of their relationship has not been disclosed publicly. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to Fairfield Police Station for questioning.

Following the incident, a crime scene was established at the property. Detectives from Fairfield City Police Area Command launched a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. They are being assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad under the framework of Strike Force Cummins.

As part of the investigation, forensic specialists examined the scene for physical evidence, including the alleged weapon used in the attack. Police have also begun interviewing neighbours, canvassing for witnesses, and reviewing CCTV footage from nearby properties and businesses to piece together the timeline of events.

On Monday, the man was formally charged in relation to the woman’s death. At this stage, the specific charges have not been publicly detailed, and police have not released the names of either the victim or the accused. Authorities stated that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses and formal identification is completed.

The case remains under active investigation. Police are urging anyone who may have information, including those who heard disturbances in the area at the time of the incident, to come forward. Members of the public can contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stoppers online portal.

The tragic incident has prompted renewed public focus on domestic and interpersonal violence across New South Wales. Police reiterated their commitment to investigating all such matters thoroughly and ensuring justice is pursued in accordance with the law.
