A 42-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run incident in Seaford, Victoria, that left an off-duty police officer seriously injured. The incident occurred early on the morning of Thursday, 31 July 2025.

According to Victoria Police, the victim, a 61-year-old off-duty officer, was cycling to work along the Nepean Highway when he was struck by a vehicle. Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 6:00 am after the man was found injured on the roadside. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he continues to receive treatment.

Authorities believe the vehicle involved in the collision was a white utility. The driver did not stop at the scene or offer assistance, prompting an immediate investigation led by local police. Detectives issued a public appeal for witnesses and any available dashcam footage that could aid the investigation.

Later that same day, at around 8:35 pm, a member of the public reported seeing a white utility vehicle at a service station on Nepean Highway in Chelsea. The report noted erratic driving behavior. In response, Victoria Police began monitoring the vehicle’s movements through nearby suburbs including Edithvale and Aspendale.

At approximately 9:05 pm, police intercepted the vehicle in a service lane off Nepean Highway in Mentone. The driver, a resident of Seaford, was arrested at the scene without incident. Following the arrest, the man was medically assessed and found to be unfit for interview at the time. Authorities confirmed that he is expected to be formally interviewed once he is deemed fit to do so.

Police have not released the name of the suspect and have not confirmed whether any charges have been filed. The investigation remains active as officers continue to gather evidence and interview potential witnesses.

Victoria Police is urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident, seen the vehicle involved, or possess relevant dashcam footage to come forward. Information can be provided to Crime Stoppers by calling 1800 333 000 or submitting a report online. Members of the public are reminded not to approach anyone they suspect to be involved in the case but to contact authorities immediately.

As of now, no additional details about the cause of the collision or possible contributing factors have been released. Updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
