Four people have been charged following a series of alleged armed robberies across Melbourne’s western suburbs earlier this week.

A 20-year-old man from Glenroy, a 19-year-old from Wallan, an 18-year-old from Werribee, and a 17-year-old boy from the Merri-bek area were arrested after a police pursuit on Tuesday, 22 July. With assistance from the Air Wing, police tracked a stolen Audi sedan along the Princes Freeway and through the backstreets of Spotswood, Yarraville, and Seddon, before stopping the vehicle on Chatham Street in Footscray.

All four have been charged with armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, and driving offences.

The Glenroy and Wallan men were remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court tomorrow. The Werribee man is due to appear on 16 October, while the Merri-bek boy will face a children’s court at a later date.

The charges relate to four alleged robberies at bottle shops and service stations in Tottenham, Derrimut, and Tarneit on the same day. In each incident, at least one edged weapon was reportedly used to threaten staff, with demands made for cash and cigarettes. Alcohol was also stolen before the group allegedly fled in the stolen vehicle.

No injuries were reported during the incidents.
