Thick Fog Disrupts Sydney Ferry Services Today

Ferry commuters across Sydney faced major disruptions this morning after dense fog blanketed the city, forcing the cancellation of several services. Transport for NSW confirmed that passengers should expect delays and consider alternative transport, such as bus services.

While some ferry routes have resumed, others remain affected. Services east of the Sydney Harbour Bridge are back in operation, but the F3 Parramatta River and F4 Pyrmont Bay routes continue to face cancellations. In particular, ferries between Rydalmere and Circular Quay, and between Sydney Olympic Park and Barangaroo, have not fully resumed.

Earlier in the morning, ferry operations were temporarily halted altogether due to low visibility. Images captured from Milsons Point show the Sydney Harbour Bridge almost completely obscured by the heavy fog.

Despite improving conditions, commuters have been advised to allow for extra travel time. Transport authorities are urging passengers to monitor electronic information boards and listen to station announcements for live updates.

There are no reported disruptions to flight services at Sydney Airport.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast that the fog will lift later in the day, with Sydney expected to reach a high of 21°C. However, authorities have also issued warnings about dangerous surf conditions as winds are predicted to increase throughout the day. Swimmers, surfers, and rock fishers are being urged to avoid hazardous coastal areas.

The fog, which has extended into northern and western parts of the city, has become a common occurrence in late winter, often disrupting transport and lowering visibility during peak hours.
