Darwin Property Listed With 4.5m Pet Crocodile

Outback Wrangler star Matt Wright has listed his Darwin property for sale, and it comes with an unexpected bonus: a 4.5-metre saltwater crocodile named Spicy.

The home, located at 124 Virginia Road in the suburb of Virginia, Northern Territory, is on the market with a price guide of $1.39 million. The listing is being managed by agents Ryan Rowsell and Andrew Harding of Ray White Darwin.

Wright, best known for his television appearances involving remote wildlife rescues, announced via his official Instagram account. In the video, he said the crocodile would be included with the property if the buyer is willing to take him.

“If you want the place, you get him with it,” Wright said as he stood beside the crocodile’s pen on the property.

Spicy, a saltwater crocodile measuring approximately 4.5 metres, lives in a purpose-built enclosure within the grounds. The secure, fenced habitat is visible from the upper balcony of the house. While rare, this isn’t the first time a Top End property has been listed with a crocodile included, though such listings remain highly uncommon.

Wright gave a video tour of the property, highlighting the driveway, which features hand-laid stone paving, and the croc enclosure. He also invited prospective buyers to an open inspection on Sunday, August 3, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. However, he added that the event was strictly for serious buyers only.

“There is a home invasion this weekend,” he joked. “One condition: no media or tyre kickers.”

Wright and his wife, Kaia, purchased the property nine years ago and have since renovated it extensively. The elevated home has been transformed into a modern retreat using materials such as concrete, timber, and glass. High-end finishes include Murano glass lighting and Taj Mahal stone surfaces.

Mrs Wright described the home as inspired by brutalist architecture, with floor-to-ceiling windows that bring the surrounding trees into view. “You feel like you’re up in the mahogany trees,” she said.

The home includes four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a self-contained unit on the ground floor, ideal for guests or rental purposes. For buyers seeking a distinctive Northern Territory lifestyle, the listing offers something few properties can match.
