Royal Australian Air Force Base Amberley served as the central logistics hub during Exercise Talisman Sabre 2025, facilitating the coordination of air movements for more than 40,000 personnel from 19 nations. The exercise, which ran from July 13 to August 4, highlighted Australia’s strategic role in regional security and showcased seamless multinational cooperation. Operating around the clock, Amberley supported complex cargo and personnel transfers using key aircraft, including the C-17A Globemaster III and the C-130J Hercules.

Wing Commander Alison White, commanding officer of the RAAF’s No. 86 Wing, noted the importance of allied collaboration during the exercise. She stated that the integration of foreign aircrews with Australian logistics teams was essential for maintaining operational tempo. Joint efforts enabled rapid deployment and ensured the smooth handling of heavy airlift requirements. Amberley’s infrastructure supported over 1,200 air movements throughout the exercise period.

The United States, Canada, and New Zealand were among the key partners working alongside Australian forces. The Royal New Zealand Air Force contributed personnel to ground handling operations, while Canadian forces deployed CC-130J Hercules aircraft to bolster transport capacity. These efforts were coordinated by the Air Mobility Group, based at Amberley, which oversees Australia’s airlift operations.

Exercise Talisman Sabre 2025 tested the ability of allied forces to operate together in a high-tempo environment. Despite the scale and complexity, operations at Amberley proceeded without significant delays. The exercise reinforced the base’s importance as a critical logistics node in the Indo-Pacific, supporting Australia’s defense posture and enhancing allied readiness.

While some observers have called for increased investment in Australia’s airlift capabilities, the performance at Amberley during the exercise was widely regarded as effective. The demonstration of interoperability and logistical coordination underlined the value of established alliances in maintaining regional stability. The smooth execution of operations at RAAF Base Amberley contributed significantly to the overall success of Talisman Sabre 2025.
