Australian defence industry companies debuted their advanced capabilities at Exercise Talisman Sabre 2025, engaging global leaders at the Industry and Defence Science and Technology Showcase in Queensland.

For the first time, Australian defence industry companies showcased their cutting-edge technologies at Exercise Talisman Sabre 2025, the nation’s largest bilateral military exercise, held from July 13 to August 4, 2025. The Industry and Defence Science and Technology Showcase, hosted at Gallipoli Barracks in Queensland on July 15, drew Australian and international defence ministers, military leaders, and senior officials from 19 nations. The event highlighted Australia’s growing defence capabilities, with firms demonstrating innovations to enhance military readiness, according to a Defence Australia release.

Michael Howell, First Assistant Secretary of the Industry Engagement Division within the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG), underscored the importance of collaboration, stating that partnerships with industry, academia, and international allies drive the development of advanced technologies, giving Australian forces a competitive edge. “These partnerships enable game-changing ideas to become capabilities that strengthen our sailors, soldiers, and aviators,” he told Mirage News. The showcase featured technologies designed to improve interoperability and support the sovereignty of allied nations, fostering industry-to-industry links critical for regional security.

Exercise Talisman Sabre 2025, involving over 40,000 personnel from countries including the United States, Canada, Japan, and the United Kingdom, provided a high-profile platform for Australian firms to demonstrate their contributions to national and regional defense. The event included live-fire exercises and the debut of Australian Defence Force (ADF) capabilities like the UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters and Precision Strike Missile, showcasing technological advancements. Brigadier Damian Hill, Talisman Sabre Exercise Director, noted the event’s role in integrating large-scale forces, emphasizing meticulous planning with Queensland authorities and traditional owners to ensure safety, per Defence Australia.

The showcase reflects Australia’s strategic push to bolster its defence industry amid rising Indo-Pacific tensions. By highlighting local innovation, the event strengthens bilateral ties and positions Australian companies as key players in global defence markets. As the exercise concluded in Lae, Papua New Guinea, on August 4, the industry’s contributions underscored a commitment to a secure and stable region, aligning with national interests in deterrence and preparedness.
