Darwin: Crocodile Included in $1.39M Property Sale

A Darwin property listed for $1.39 million comes with an unusual extra: Spicy, a 4.5-metre saltwater crocodile.

Outback Wrangler and wildlife presenter Matt Wright announced the offer in a recent Instagram video, promoting the sale of his family home in Virginia, Northern Territory. “If you want the place, I’ll even leave ya with Spicy,” Wright said while giving a video tour of the property. “That’s where the big dog hangs out, down there,” he added, pointing to Spicy’s enclosure from the upstairs balcony.

Wright, known for his work with wildlife in the Top End, showcased the unique features of the property, including a “crazy pave” driveway that he said was built with “heart, sweat and tears.” The crocodile has its own designated pen on the block, which forms part of the listing.

The home, located at 124 Virginia Rd, is being marketed through Ray White Darwin agents Ryan Rowsell and Andrew Harding. The open house is scheduled for Sunday, August 3, from 10 to 11 am. However, Wright made it clear in the video that the viewing comes with conditions. “No media or tyre kickers,” he said, adding, “You’re welcome to come on the Sunday.”

The property has undergone major renovations since Wright and his wife Kaia purchased it nine years ago. The couple transformed it from a typical elevated Darwin home into a modern, minimalist residence.

While offering a crocodile with a house may seem extraordinary, such stunts are not entirely unheard of in the Northern Territory. However, listings with wildlife inclusions remain rare in the broader Australian real estate market.

This listing follows a recent surge in Darwin’s property prices, with median home values hitting new highs. It also reflects the unique lifestyle often marketed in the Top End—close to nature, fishing, and, in this case, crocodiles.
