A pedestrian was killed in a traffic crash involving a Toyota Hilux in Ingham, Queensland, on July 31, 2025, prompting an investigation by the Queensland Police Service’s Forensic Crash Unit.

Emergency services were called to Trebonne Road at approximately 10:50 p.m. following reports that a white Toyota Hilux had struck a 43-year-old local man. Despite paramedics’ efforts, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement by the Queensland Police Service (QPS), as reported by Mirage News. The Forensic Crash Unit is leading inquiries into the circumstances of the incident.

Preliminary information indicates that the pedestrian was walking along Trebonne Road when the collision occurred. The driver of the Hilux, a 38-year-old Ingham man, was uninjured and is cooperating with police. The investigation is focusing on factors including road conditions, visibility, and potential driver error. As of August 1, 2025, no charges have been filed.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from the area to come forward. Information can be submitted via Policelink at www.police.qld.gov.au/reporting or by contacting Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The incident has drawn renewed attention to pedestrian safety on rural roads like Trebonne Road, which lacks dedicated lighting and footpaths. The QPS reiterated its road safety messaging, highlighting the “Fatal Five” contributors to road trauma: speeding, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, failure to wear seatbelts, driver fatigue, and distraction.

Ingham, a rural town in North Queensland, has experienced similar incidents, including a fatal collision between a sedan and a truck on the Bruce Highway in May 2025, according to Queensland Police News.

According to QPS data released on July 20, 2025, Queensland had recorded 158 road fatalities so far this year, compared to 161 over the same period in 2024. The findings of the Forensic Crash Unit’s investigation will be essential in determining the cause of the incident and informing future prevention efforts.
